Virtual Garden | interactions with a digital plant
An exploration of Arduino, Processing and LDRs.
Natural ways of interaction with virtual agents like this tree have been incorporated. Throwing light on the screen results in growing of a sun which in turn results in the growing of the shoot. Similarly on giving water to the system, the root grows. This system has many scopes specially in the domain of education. Such interactive educational mediums can help in better learning. This system also can be used for recreational purposes.
The interaction that I've created revolves around 2 elements of control. The user only has 2 inputs. All they can do is create suns, by throwing light on the digital plant or water the plant by pouring real water in the medium. The suns and the water cause the little tree to become enlivened, and it starts to grow. The direction of the sun can be controlled using the direction of the light.
The user has a degree of control over the plant growth. The more suns the user has on screen at any one time, the faster and higher the plant will grow. Once the tree gets to a certain stage in its growth, it starts to sprout leaves, and then when it reaches the ultimate point of growth, it starts to sprout flowers too.
